1992 Lakota & Dakota Animal Wisdom Stories

I was inspired to do this project by my involvement in the South Dakota Peace and Justice Center and their efforts for reconciliation between European Americans and American Indians. I researched and compiled a body of stories and then worked with Dakota storyteller Pamela Greenhill Kaizen in retelling the stories into a consistent voice. While doing the project I kept several mice in his studio as models and came to realize they had personalities as interesting as those in the traditional stories. I produced a series of 12 four by four foot canvases to accompany the stories.

- mixed media on canvas

- 10 canvases are in the collection of the Aberdeen Public school system, Aberdeen, SD

- one canvas in the collection of Dacotah Prairie Museum, Aberdeen, SD

- Lakota and Dakota Animal Wisdom Stories was published by Tipi Press, Chamberlain, SD, 1994 (it is now out of print but available as used books on the Internet)
