1983 Five Futures

This project was created after I spent 1982 making smaller works dealing with the nuclear arms race. Five Futures was the summation of my research on the topic. The 11’ diameter sculpture takes the form of a five pointed star, a symbol used by both the US and USSR.  The center of the work features a section of the Kremlin surrounded by the Pentagon. From these symbols of power extend the five points of the star, each depicting a different nuclear future: total nuclear war, limited nuclear war, nuclear proliferation, nuclear arms race, and nuclear disarmament. The side walls of each section contain stamped research information.

- wood, canvas, & mixed media

- Five Futures is in the collection of the Visual Arts Center, Washington Pavilion, Sioux Falls, SD
