2006-7 Black Hills Stone

This series of 11” X 14” paintings makes manifest my enjoyment for the stone found in the Black Hills of South Dakota. From north to south of this sacred region these packs of minerals, some over a billion years old, give him endless pleasure. The color, texture, pattern and value, in endless variations inspire McGinnis. Along with stones he often adds some of the other marvels of this environment: animals, birds, insects, and plants.
